Your Destiny Awaits You
Ah, our destiny! Do you believe that we have a certain predestined fate, a specific path we are meant to trod in this lifetime? This tends to be a very white person (and dare I say white supremacist) outlook on life as a human, the idea that we have some grand destiny which awaits us in this lifetime.
We are, at the end of the day, just merely meat sacks with tools and language floating on a rock in an ever expanding universe hurtling towards god knows where, so why would we have a purpose?
The smallness of human life tends to make one feel insignificant, which can honestly feel like a blessing at times. Who wants to shoulder the burden of purpose? Life is far more simple when you recognize that we are merely here to exist. We are nature and our purpose is found in simply being a cog in the wheel of life. Or is it?
We may be small and the universe large but are we not also the universe in action? To understand this we have to understand the concept of “as above, so below,” which is a handy phrase representing the idea that everything in life is a mirror of itself. Think of the branches of a tree and how they look like the veins of our lungs, or how walnuts are in the shape of human brains, or how exploding stars sometimes look like the human eye, or how the moon affects the tides and the water in our own bodies.
We may be small but we are a part of something much bigger, like a tiny sea bug living on an enormous blue whale. We have no definitive way to discern whether we honestly have true free will or if every moment that we assumed we had a choice was already written in history as so. We may not have one definitive purpose in this life but many, many purposes to undercover through the years. We are nature and we are meant to simply exist, but perhaps we are meant to exist with passion and purpose in each breath.
What is a Destiny Number
In traditional numerology texts the destiny number is one which tells of the lessons and shift in personality as you enter true adulthood in your early 30’s. For this reason, I don’t call it the destiny number, I call it the 1st Saturn return number. It’s a lot longer and more cumbersome to say, plus it requires some astrology knowledge, but it adds some necessary details (I think).
So, what is a Saturn return? Saturn is a slow moving planet since it is much farther from the sun than we are here on earth. Saturn’s orbit is about 29.5 Earth years, meaning that when you are approaching 30 Saturn will have returned, for the first time in your life, to the sign (and degree) it was in on your birth date.
Saturn is the planet of growing the fuck up, so that’s exactly what we are invited to do during our Saturn return. You will feel as though a magnifying glass is being put up to each aspect of your life and, upon inspection, you’ll be forced to look at it in truth. This causes us to question everything, especially if we have been living our life in a way which makes other people happy first and foremost. So it’s a challenging time of big realizations, but ultimately it works to set yourself up for a happy, aligned, and honest adulthood.
Destiny numbers tell us about the major lessons of our Saturn return as well as the energy we bring into adulthood, unlike our life path number which tells us about who we always are and will be. We do go through a 2nd Saturn return in our mid to late 50’s, but that’s a number to talk about another time.
How to Calculate Your Destiny Number
Calculating destiny numbers is very simple if you read the past two articles on soul desire and cultivated personality numbers. All you have to do is add those two together and boom there you have it.
What you’re doing is adding together all of the letters in your full name. Below is the chart which links each letter of the English alphabet to a number. Remember, your current full name is the one that will be most relevant for your life right now, but you can always calculate for your birth name, maiden name or dead name if you’re curious about the shift and change in energy between one and the other.
Adding Across
With this method you simply write out each number as it corresponds to the letters in your name, placing a + in between each one in order to create the number sentence. In traditional numerology you’ll want to add together the double digit number from the original product that you get from the calculation until you get one single digit number. This is called the base number, only the numbers 1-9 are base numbers and they comprise the foundation of understanding in numerology. However, master numbers are repeating numbers such as 11, 22 and 33, so at any point in your calculations if you get a master number you can cease adding numbers into one another.
Adding Down
To use this method you want to separate all of the names within your full name. So you’ll first add together the numbers of your first name, adding the original products together until you have one single digit, then you repeat the process with your middle name and last name (or however many names you have in your full name).
At this point you should be left with 3 single digit numbers, unless one of your names is added down to a master number such as 11, 22 or 33. These numbers hold more importance and speak to larger life lessons, so we always honor them when they pop up, leaving them as is.
Once you have your three (+) numbers from adding down your full name you simply add all of those numbers together. From there you may need to add the original product down again until you find the base number, unless of course it equals a master number.
My Method
I like double digit numbers, so we do it in much the same way as the previous methods. You can simply add across and use both the original product (which would be called the detail number here) as well as the base number. Or you can utilize the parenthesis in the process of adding down, only you will leave the number you get from each name as is, there’s no need to find the single digit number. It makes more sense when you look at it, so check out the example below.
What Does This Mean for You?
Great, you’ve got your destiny, AKA 1st Saturn Return number, now. What information does this number give you about your life purpose and destiny? Read through the list below to learn about how this number will impact (or already has impacted) your Saturn return, and how that will shift your personality and goals as you move through adulthood.
1: finding yourself is an elusive idea and many of us struggle with it in our early adult life, but for you it takes center stage when you go through your 1st Saturn return. Figuring out who you are, boldly being the most authentic person you can be, and asserting a certain level of independence is key to that period of your life. After your Saturn return you’ll be known as someone who marches to the beat of their own drum.
2: your relationships take center stage when your Saturn return begins. Any unhelpful patterns from the past regarding friendship and love are likely to come to the surface. You may come to realize that some people in your life aren’t really your friends, but you’re also likely to meet some who soon will be. After your Saturn return you’re the type of person who can always know the energy and intentions of a person when you first meet them. Being your friend is an exclusive and very good club to be in.
3: the things that are closest to you are likely to change. Your social life will grow, which means you might grow out of certain friends, communities and studies. You’re going to feel a thirst for more, more knowledge and more life during this fertile period. After your Saturn return you take on life as if there is a new opportunity with every step you take and people are drawn to your charm and wit.
4: you’ll be called to take a good hard look at your life because creating more stability is the name of the game. In order to create more stability you’ll have to get real about the ways in which you’re lacking in that department, and how much of your instability falls on your own shoulders. After your Saturn return you’ll grow into an adult who knows how to handle their shit, respects their time, and knows when to rest.
5: you’ll feel a deep call for adventure and change by the time your Saturn return hits. This could look like moving to a different state or even country, breaking up with a long time partner (only if it wasn’t meant to be) or even completely shifting gears career wise. Big things are coming, but it will require you to shake things up in a big way. After your Saturn return your mature persona is of someone with a well lived life, unafraid to make bold choices.
6: for you, your Saturn return is all about learning to respect your time and energy. This is your destiny number for a reason, it means that you’ve spent your youth giving away too much of yourself to others. It’s time to find better balance and harmony so that in the future you can pour from a full cup. After your Saturn return you are still the soft, gentle, caring person you’ve always been, but now with stronger boundaries.
7: your Saturn return will be a huge eye opener for you. It’s likely that you’ll find that you have to rewrite most, if not all, of your internal beliefs. Spiritual pursuits will call to you since your mind will be focused on figuring out the big questions in life such as, “do I have a purpose?” and “is there a god?” After your Saturn return you’ll be a wise and insightful adult whose mind is always open to new possibilities.
8: your Saturn return lessons will have to do with money, sex and power. Whether you’re on the end of the spectrum of being someone who has been easily taken advantage of, or if you have been the user and abuser in the past, this Saturn return number is about learning how to wield power respectfully. After your Saturn return you are a powerful and capable human who is likely to gain much success in this lifetime.
9: you might come to realize in a big way just how interconnected we all are during your Saturn return. Because of this realization it’s likely that you’ll ascribe yourself to a certain cause at this time, whether it be for the sake of humanity, the planet, or animals. You might also come to realize that the things you used to want in life are no more, your view becomes much more grand. After this you tackle adulthood with a more open mind and are often called to new experiences which expand your worldview.
11: your Saturn return is a challenging time, pushing you to learn big lessons about who you are and who you hope to be. The trials and tribulations of your youth play a specific role in molding you into the teacher you are destined to become. After your Saturn return you are more readily able to stand up as the inspirational leader you are destined to become, imparting the lessons from your lived experiences onto others.
22: your Saturn return pushes you to get real about the future you are building (or currently failing to build). You will come to realize that creating a life of success is only as good as its ability to uplift and support others along the way. After your Saturn return you will likely have a well defined goal or even business that you will be working to build in the years to come.
33: you’ll come to realize that you have a deep desire and even a need to help as many people as possible in this lifetime. Sickness and struggle help to inform your future decisions because the hardships you face at this time are not a singularity, they are universal. After your Saturn return you’ll be a patron for health and healing, working to aid as many people as possible for the next three decades.
