What Does Your Soul Desire?

Your Soul's Desire According to Numerology

A numerology chart is composed of numbers, as you may have guessed. These numbers function in a similar way to an astrology chart and reading in that each number can give insight into different, sometimes conflicting, aspects of the self. These numbers cannot tell you who you are (and neither does your astrology chart), they merely invite you into the natural energy and vibration around certain areas of your life. Simply looking at one number in your chart will not create a concrete picture of who you are, because you are so much more than a fixed point, which is why it’s important to remember that numerology functions on a spectrum.

What your numerology chart can provide is a look into the emphasis or focus on that area of life. Whether you experience the energy of that number in a positive or negative way is based on your life experience, current circumstances and the rest of your numerology chart. So as you read on about the soul desire number know that your desires in life may change, but there is an overarching energy that unites those desires and that’s what we are here to discover today.

What is a Soul Desire Number

The numbers in a numerology chart are very aptly named so, as you might be able to guess, the soul desire number tells us about what your soul deeply desires in this lifetime. In short (or in English perhaps), this number tells us what we need to achieve or do in this lifetime in order to feel satisfied.

These are our big dreams, the ones that keep us up at night and the things we work towards for many years. Unlike the life path number, which is an energy that speaks to our innate gifts and qualities, the soul desire number is not guaranteed to us in this lifetime. Instead, this is something you must work towards. It requires time and energy to turn this desire into your destiny.

How to Calculate Your Soul Desire Number

The soul desire number is calculated based on the numbers of your name, but what does that mean? In numerology each letter of the alphabet is associated with a number. We’ll be looking at the English alphabet today since that is my native tongue and it’s what I use for my numerology readings. However, since English isn’t the only language in the world there are going to be different systems for different languages.

To calculate the soul desire number you’ll want to use the vowels of your full name, example below.

In most numerology texts it will state that you have to use your full legal name, but that’s not always going to be the case, so you’ll have to use some discernment here. Use the full name that you go by. Since it's quite common to go by different first or last names than the ones that appear on your birth certificate, ask yourself “what is my name right now in this phase of my life?” Sometimes our parents get it right when they name us and sometimes they don’t (I mean, naming a tiny infant human is a huge responsibility, you don't even know their personality yet).

So we also have to take into account maiden and married names. It’s quite common to live a few decades of your life with one last name and then switch it, marriage or otherwise. When we have a full name that we used for a long period of time and another name that took its place afterwards it’s good to calculate the soul desire number for both full names in order to compare and contrast.

One last order of business is the transient letter Y, sometimes a vowel and sometimes a consonant. When calculating soul desire numbers sound out the names with Y in them, if it is acting as and making the sound of a vowel, then use it in your soul desire calculation. If it’s not making a vowel sound, that Y is a consonant!

So now you should have some vowels from your name(s) pulled out and ready to work with. Look at the chart below to see the value of each letter.

A=1, E=5, I=9, O=6, U=3 and Y=7

There are 3 ways to calculate your soul desire number: adding across, adding down or my method (learned from Dusty Bunker and Faith Javane in their book Numerology and the Divine Triangle). When adding across you simply take all the vowels in the name and add the numbers of those vowels one by one. It’s common to get a double digit number when doing this numerology equation, so when you get a double digit original product, simply add those two numbers together until you finally get the angle digit base number. However, there is a rule! If you get a double digit repeating number such as 11, leave it as is. These are called master numbers and hold great importance in the world of numerology.

When doing the adding down method you want to be cognizant of the separation of the numbers by name. This means that you add the vowel numbers of each of the names in the full name together first before you add them across. When adding down we still want single digits, so be sure to continue to add together the double digit original product of each name until you get a single digit number for each. Once again, if you get a master number like 22, leave it as is!

Now, I like double digit numbers, so my calculation method looks something like the process of adding down… except I don’t add down as much. Instead, when I get a double digit number from adding together the vowels in each name I leave it as is. I still want to find the single digit base number since that tells us about the overall energy of the number, but I like to use the double digit number to help me get more insight into the specifics of the base number. Once again, master numbers like 33 should be honored and never added down. It’s a bit more common to get master numbers such as 22 and 33 when using this method (11 is the most common and can be found often in all the methods).

It doesn’t matter which method you use for your own calculation, all of them will produce the same single digit base number, it’s mostly just about preference.

What Does This Mean For You?

Great, now you know that number that represents your soul’s deepest desire and what you must achieve and do in this lifetime in order to feel satisfied… but what does it mean? Read below to find out! And be sure to read for your double digit original product as well if you used my method of calculation. For instance my soul desire number is 41/5, so the number 5 is most important but reading for the numbers 1 and 4 can help give me insight into how to accomplish my desire/how exactly that desire manifests.

1: finding out who you are and living the truest most authentic life that you can is what your soul needs more than anything else.

2: love and beautiful relationships are one of the most important things you can cultivate in this lifetime. Developing your connection to your intuition and being able to fully trust your gut will also be necessary!

3: creating art, learning as much as you can, and socializing with all kinds of people will bring you the joy and satisfaction you are looking for in life.

4: you’ll need to find a sense of unshakable stability in this life to feel satisfied. Remember, stability needs to be found in your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual worlds.

5: you need change, adventure and excitement in your life. Staying in one place or one phase of life for too long can feel stifling.

6: you want to help love and care for others. Being someone who is able to lend a helping hand to those in need will be most fulfilling for you.

7: you want to find a meaningful connection to your life through spirituality or science (or both). Spending time alone to ask the big life questions is important for your overall satisfaction.

8: you desire power and money, not necessarily in excess but, energetically. You must find strength and magick (manifestation especially) in order to feel satisfied within your life.

9: you desire to learn and do as much good as possible. A humanitarian life of travel and teaching is one that will satiate this desire.

11: you want to be a leader and teacher in this lifetime. Part of this requires you to live your life fully, be sure to mess up and learn from those mistakes along the way. Your desire requires wisdom and wisdom comes through life experience.

22: you want to create something that will outlive yourself and your needs, something that others can use and stand upon and utilize for generations to come.

33: you want to live the ultimate life of health and healing, not just for you and your own journey, but for others as well. You won’t be satisfied unless you help to heal as many people as you possibly can.

Sometimes our life path numbers and soul desire numbers work in perfect harmony, such as having a LP# of 3 and a SD# of 7-both suggest that the native wants to learn and discover many things in their lifetime. Other times these numbers can create quite the contradiction such as a LP# of 1 and a SD# of 6, meaning that the native is going to live a life of self discovery and individuality but they also desire to live a life of service to others. When this happens it does not mean that one must cancel out the other, or even that there must be a compromise made within your life, it’s about finding the harmony and synthesis of both. The LP# 1 and SD# 6 person would likely develop a sense of self and identity that centers their desire for service, being a caregiver helps to develop their personality. Or they might even be of service to others by leading the way and showing how one can live a truly unique and authentic life (because that can be a healing gift we share with others).
